Kyiv is planning to bring more than 1.5GW of additional thermal generation online. In particular, the plan includes setting up backup boiler houses.
This was reported by Mykola Kalashnyk, Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport.
Together with representatives of the city authorities, the client and contractors, he checked the progress of construction of protective measures for critical infrastructure facilities and backup boiler houses in the capital.
The work is expected to be completed in around two months, with equipment installation at some sites scheduled to run until the end of December. These capacities will strengthen the capital’s heat supply as early as the heating season.
The client for the works is the Service for Restoration and Infrastructure Development in Kyiv Region and the Kyiv City State Administration. Issues that fall under the responsibility of the Ministry and the Recovery Agency are being resolved jointly with the city and the gas distribution organisation, the official stressed.
“At the sites, we looked at ways to speed things up: alternative connection points to the gas networks, parallel execution of construction and gas works, reinforcing crews and working in multiple shifts. It is important to go through the entire process up to commissioning, including start-up and commissioning works, so that the equipment can supply heat reliably,” the minister said.
Kalashnyk added that during the inspection they also looked at a facility that has been transferred from state to municipal ownership and is expected in the near future to provide additional energy supply to part of the city.
