Stepan Kubiv

First deputy prime minister and economic development minister of Ukraine, a member of parliament of the seventh and eight convoc

Stepan Kubiv Born on 9 March 1962 in the village of Mshanets (Peremozhne), Zboriv District of Ternopil Region. 

Education

In 1984, he graduated from Lviv State University, the Faculty of Math, and in 2002, from the National University Lviv Polytechnic, the Faculty of Economics and Management.

Family

Married, has a daughter.

Career

1983-1984 - an assistant at the board of Advanced Math at the Lviv Ivan Franko State University.

Further career growth is based on his active involvement in Komsomol, an organization of the Communist youth.

1984-1990 - secretary of the Komsomol committee at the Lviv Ivan Franko State University, in charge of the organization department and the department of young scientists and students of the Komsomol regional committee

During the perestroika, he is the secretary of the regional coordination council for scientific and creative youth, a member of the research council of the Lviv Ivan Franko State University, a deputy head of the coordination council of the Lviv regional executive committee for scientific and creative youth, a member of the audit commission of the Lviv Komsomol organization's central committee.

1990-1991 - a sector leader of the Lviv regional staff of student teams

1991-1994 - a deputy director ad later the director for research and development and new forms of business of the Lviv regional youth research and business union Student Lviv. 1994 - the director of the joint research and production company Student Lviv under the Lviv regional executive committee.

1994 - goes into banking. Takes various posts at ZUKB (Western Ukrainian Commercial Bank): from a business planning specialist to the acting board chairman.

2000-2008 - board chairman of Kredobank (in 2000 known as ZUKB)

2003-2005 - Credit Bank

April 2006-December 2012 - a Lviv regional councillor. Runs for parliament on the list of Our Ukraine for the first time, then on the list of the People's Front in October 2010. A deputy of the budget commission.

Since 2008 - visiting assistant professor of Marketing and Logistics at Lviv Polytechnic

Since 2010 - a member of Lviv Bank's supervisory board

In October 2010, he runs for Lviv city mayor, finishes fifth with over 14,000 votes.

Since 12 December 2012 - a member of the Ukrainian parliament of the seventh convocation, No 23 on Fatherland's list. Chairs the party's regional election staff. A deputy head of the parliamentary committee for finance and banking.

During the pro-EU, anti-government protests known as Euro-Maydan in 2013-2014, Kubiv is a commandant of Euro-Maydan in Kiev.

24 February-19 June 2014 - governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU)

On 18 June 2014, Kubiv resigns, saying he will go back into politics. The next day parliament accepts his resignation and appoints Valeriya Hontareva as NBU governor.

Since November 2014 - a member of the Ukrainian parliament of the eighth convocation. No 59 on the Petro Poroshenko Bloc's election list.
