Autocephaly for Ukrainian church may be considered along with Filaret anathema lift

The final decisions are likely to be adopted at the Holy Synod in October.

The position of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on granting of autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church remains unchanged. The Great Hierarchical Council has been finished in Istanbul, TSN reported. With the Ukrainian issue being on the meeting's top agenda, hierarchs were informed about a positive decision of Patriarch Bartholomew and expressed no fundamental objections.

Therefore, the final decisions are likely to be adopted at the Holy Synod in October.

The issue of granting autocephaly may be considered simultaneously with that of lifting the anathema on the current head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, Patriarch Filaret.

Moscow excommunicated Filaret 20 years ago for having created the Kyiv Patriarchate.
