Scoop of the day: Four Ukrainian servicemen killed in Donbas

Four Ukrainian servicemen were killed and two wounded when Russia-backed militants mortared their positions near Shumy today.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is holding consultations with the leaders of the Normandy Four (France, German and Russia in addition to Ukraine) following a surge in shooting in Donbas, a representative of the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group, Oleksiy Arestovych, has told Ukrayina 24 TV. Presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak is involved in the consultations.

Coronavirus

The daily infection rate has hit the record high of 18,132 cases, the Health Ministry has said. There were 326 coronavirus death in 24 hours.

Romania

Ukraine and Romania have resumed joint border patrols on the Danube, the State Border Service has said.

Crime

Kyiv's Pecherskyy district court has placed a former commander of the Donbas battalion, ex-MP Semen Semenchenko into custody. He is suspected of running an illegal private military company. Semenchenko described the detention an "act of provocation by Russia".

His suspected accomplice Yevhen Shevchenko was arrested for two months but may be released on bail for 5m hryvnyas.
