Army reshuffle

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the Armed Forces' General Staff Commander Serhiy Korniychuk, Air Assault Troops Commander Yevhen Moysyuk and Joint Forces Commander Volodymyr Kravchenko.

Zelenskyy appointed Serhiy Sheptalo as General Staff commander and Oleksandr Pavlyuk as Joint Forces commander.

He reminded them that their tasks are to modernise the Ukrainian army, to train troops to defend Ukraine in modern warfare, to ensure effective interaction among commanders at all levels.

"After the rotation and replacement of commanders and heads in the army and in the Defence Ministry, I expect more systemic work and that every soldier of our army should understand the prospects for the development of the Armed Forces as such," Zelenskyy said.

Air incident

Four people got killed after a light aircraft WT-10 Advantic crashed down on a private house in the village of Sheparivka, Ivano-Frankivsk Region at 1.40 p.m. today. Onboard the plane were professional local pilot Ihor Tabanyuk and three US Hassidic Jews as passengers.

Governor's dismissal

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved Anna Kovalenko's dismissal as head of the Chernihiv regional state administration.

Kovalenko is the wife of Ruslan Khomchak who lost his post of the Armed Forces' command-in-chief on 27 July.

Kovalenko is likely to be replaced by Vyacheslav Chaus, a deputy director-general of the Ukrhazvydobuvannya gas extraction company.

Coronavirus

There have been 17 confirmed cases of the Delta strain in Ukraine and Delta-related fatality, chief sanitary officer Ihor Kuzin has said.

Lithuania will give Ukraine 131,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine instead of the earlier planned 100,000, the Delfi news website has quoted Healthcare Minister Arūnas Dulkys as saying.

Yanukovych case

The National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialised Anticorrupton Prosecutor's Office have asked the High Anticorruption Court to place in custody ex-President Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr Yanukovych. The bureau has been investigating the case of the appropriation of the Mezhyhirya residence by them through office abuse.

Crime

The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed a Russian intelligence agent. He was caught receiving confidential information about an artillery warehouse, the SBU said.

A resident of Cherkasy Region, the man was recruited by the Russian special service in Russia to collect information about military strategic facilities.
