Scoop of the weekend: Ukrainian serviceman killed in Donbas

Donbas

Sergeant Major Vitaliy Pavlysko of the 24th detached mechanized brigade got killed in Donbas on 7 November, the Yavoriv district state administration in Lviv Region has reported.

By 5 p.m. the Russian occupying troops have violated the ceasefire on eight occasions, the Joint Forces Operation HQ said in its evening update. According to it, one serviceman was lethally wounded and two more were rushed to the hospital.

Border situation

Ukraine has no confirmation of US media reports about Russia's build-up of forces in Crimea, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and near the Ukrainian border, the Ukrainian presidential press secretary, Serhiy Nykyforov, said on the air of the Dom TV channel.

US-Russia

President Joe Biden dispatched CIA Director Bill Burns to Moscow earlier this week to warn the Kremlin that the USA is watching its buildup of troops near Ukraine's border closely, and to attempt to determine what is motivating Russia's actions, CNN has reported.

A new escalation on Ukraine's borders requires urgent consultations with international partners, the fifth president and the leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, said on the air of Savik Shuster's Freedom of Speech talk show.

Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian authorities were still hoping to arrange a meeting with Putin and therefore publicly denied the facts presented by both authoritative US media and military experts in the USA and NATO on the build-up of Russian forces.

Coronavirus

Kyiv and 15 regions are in the red quarantine zone as of 7 November. Transcarpathian, Kirovohrad and Ternopil regions are in the yellow zone while Vinnytsya, Volyn, Poltava, Kharkiv, Cherkasy and Chernivtsi regions are in the orange one.

On the morning of 7 November, Ukraine reported 17,419 new Covid-19 cases adnd 449 fatalities.

Vaccines

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has delivered 2,930,300 doses of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine to Ukraine, the Health Ministy has said.

In total, UNICEF has delivered 7,415,810 doses of vaccines from different manufacturers (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Sinovac) as part of the COVAX facility, including this delivery.

As of 6 November, 11,354,681 in Ukraine have been vaccinated, of those 7,904,573 people with two doses.

Covid certificates

The Health Ministry has denied allegations in social networks that requests to display a Covid-19 vaccinate certificate or PCR test results result in the disclosure of a medical secret. The ministry said that under the law such certificates do not contain a medical secret.

Tax office

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 3 November cancelled its decision on Yevhen Oliynykov's victory in the competition for the post of the head of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said on Telegram.

Police recently searched Oliynykov's place supposedly as part of the investigation into VAT carousel fraud.

Obituary

Well-known ex-MP Yukhym Zvyahilskyy, 88, died of Covid-19 complications.
