Shakhtar is arranging Arena Lviv for Ukrainian refugees.

Ukraine's vice-champion FC Shakhtar Donetsk intends to help Ukrainians who have fled their homes due to the Russian invasion.

The Athletic reports that the "miners'" management has taken the initiative to use the Arena Lviv stadium as a shelter for migrants from the eastern and central regions of Ukraine.

"We are trying to be helpful and organize a shelter in Lviv, where this big stadium was used for Euro 2012. We used to play here in the Champions League.

Together with the local authorities, we organized a shelter for 2-3 thousand people. If other clubs want to take part or send things, blankets, mattresses, beds, pillows would be handy," said Yuriy Svyrydov, communications director of the Donetsk club.

The official noted that two European clubs have already participated in the project.

Benfica sends five trucks with food, medicine and clothing. Our staff are working at the stadium.

"Legia Warsaw also suggested that their stadium serves as a centre where they could collect help from other clubs before it is delivered to Lviv," Svyrydov said.
