As of 11:00 on 19 December, the situation in the power system of Ukraine is grave due to Russian shelling. Currently, there are emergency power cuts in several regions, according to the Ukrenergo (Ukrenerho) press centre.

"Throughout the night, enemy UAVs tried to break through to energy facilities across the country. Thanks to the professional work of the Air Defence Forces, the enemy has not fully achieved its goal, but, unfortunately, there are several hits to infrastructure facilities. Units of the State Emergency Service are now working to eliminate the consequences of the shelling. Where possible, repair crews are already assessing the extent of damage and starting emergency repairs," the statement reads.

Also, in the southern and eastern regions, the enemy shelled the de-occupied areas with artillery, there has been damage.

Currently, the most difficult situation is in the central, eastern and Dnipro regions. Emergency power outage schedules are now in effect in Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv regions and the city of Kyiv.

Critical infrastructure facilities are a priority, while restoration of power supply to household consumers may take a long time.

"Despite all the damage, power specialists keep the situation under control. The power system maintains a stable frequency of 50 Hz, and we work synchronously with the European continental grid. During the period of power outage, please take care of yourself and your family, as well as help those who need it nearby," Ukrenergo noted.

At night, Russians attacked Ukraine, in particular Kyiv and Kyiv Region, with several dozen barrage munitions. The air alert announced in the capital and the region around two a.m. lasted until almost six in the morning.
