The Kyiv court of appeal has selected a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention for former Defence Minister Mykhaylo Yezhel, who is accused of treason as part of the case of the so-called Kharkiv agreements, the press service of the Prosecutor-General's Office has said.

Currently, the suspect is hiding from pre-trial investigation bodies and was put on the wanted list.

The special pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation.

In April 2010, the former defence minister, by prior agreement with the former president, prime minister, minister of justice and minister of foreign affairs, in violation of the Constitution and the Law "On International Treaties of Ukraine", without actually considering the draft agreement between Ukraine and Russia on the stationing of the Black Sea Fleet on the territory of our state and conducting a mandatory legal examination, approved it without reservations.

As a result, this allowed Russia to increase the number of its troops on the territory of Ukraine, re-equip and modernize them, and later became the basis for the invasion and occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol.

In September, Kyiv's Pecherskyy district court ordered that former Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych and Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko be placed into custody.
