The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has served a notice of suspicion to Poltava mayor Oleksandr Mamay, the BBC has reported, quoting a source in the SBU and local media. Later, the SBU officially confirmed the delivery of suspicion to the mayor.

According to local journalists, Mamay is suspected of unauthorized dissemination of information on the movement of weapons and ammunition, movement or deployment of Ukrainian military units under martial law.

At one of the briefings, he shared information about the formation of a new military unit in the city and its location.

Based on the SBU files, the mayor was served a notice of suspicion of unauthorized dissemination of information on the deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units committed under martial law (Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect disseminated data that was not publicly available neither from the General Staff of the Armed Forces, or the Defence Ministry or other authorized state bodies.

The pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators of the SBU Poltava Directorate under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor's office.

Mamay risks imprisonment for up to 12 years.

Mamay has been the mayor of Poltava since 2010. During his tenure, he repeatedly got into scandals, conflicts with citizens, local judges and deputies. He made ambiguous political statements, for example, criticized decommunization.
