As a result of the Russian massive shelling on 14 January, one unit of a thermal power plant in the east and eight units of thermal power plants in the west of Ukraine were damaged, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said at a government meeting.
He added that three main substations and one overhead line were also damaged.
"This has led to an increase in the power deficit in the power system. This forces us to apply emergency shutdowns every day since 15 January. However, the power system has survived, remained intact and manageable. Repairs continue around the clock. Every day we work to ensure that Ukraine receives more generators, transformers and other equipment to eliminate damage," the prime minister said.
He added that 45 backup power stations had been received from Azerbaijan, Japan had provided powerful generators for Chernihiv Region. And it is planned to purchase power equipment worth more than 100 million euros at the expense of the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine.
On 17 January, emergency blackouts were introduced in six regions due to a significant shortage of electricity.
DTEK said that Ukrainians need to prepare for "difficult days" after the massive Russian strike on Ukraine on 14 January.
