Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have launched a pre-trial investigation into the crash of a helicopter in Brovary, Kyiv Region. Several versions of the tragedy are being considered, the SBU press service said.

Among them:

  • flight rules violation;
  • technical malfunction of the helicopter;
  • intentional damage to the vehicle.

"SBU officers are conducting a set of investigative and operational measures to establish all the causal links and details of the tragedy," the statement said.

According to Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat, the helicopter that crashed was provided to Ukraine by French partners. There were nine people on board, including Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyy, his first deputy Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary Yuriy Lubkovych. All of them died. As of 12:36 a.m., 16 victims are known. In addition to the crew, children and adults who were near the crash site - a kindergarten and a residential building - were killed. 30 people were injured, including 12 children.

The flight with the leadership of the Interior Ministry on board was heading to the combat zone, to one of the hot spots.

The police call on all witnesses to the tragedy to call 102.
