Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera that he believes his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron is wasting time considering any kind of dialogue with Russia, Reuters reports.
In this way, Zelenskyy commented on Macron's words that Russia should be "defeated, but not crushed," and that the war in Ukraine would need to be settled through negotiations.
"It will be a useless dialogue. In fact, Macron is wasting his time. I have come to the conclusion that we are not able to change the Russian attitude. If they have decided to isolate themselves in the dream of rebuilding the old Soviet empire, we cannot do anything about it. It is up to them to choose or not to cooperate with the community of nations on the basis of mutual respect," Zelenskyy told the Italian newspaper.
The president emphasized that he does not believe in regime change and believes that there is little chance of a democratic solution within Russian civil society. He also emphasized that it is impossible to bring Putin back to the negotiating table.
Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron said that his country wants Russia to lose the war but does not wish for its "destruction."
