Former advisor to the President's Office and former head of one of the SBU departments, Artem Shylo, was taken into custody with an alternative bail of UAH 30 million.

The relevant decision was made by Judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court Kateryna Sikora, the Anti-Corruption Action Centre reports. The consideration of a preventive measure for Shylo started yesterday, but was postponed until the morning of 4 April.

The suspect's lawyers insisted on a closed hearing, but the court refused.

If bail is granted, Shylo must remain within Kyiv, not communicate with other suspects, SBU officers and other persons, including the Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, his deputy Oleh Tatarov, Deputy Prime Minister Kamyshin, Deputy Prime Minister Kubrakov, regarding the circumstances of the criminal proceedings.

He also has to refrain from visiting the premises of Ukrzaliznytsya and the Presidential Office, hand over his passports, and wear an electronic bracelet.

Skhemy added that the prosecution requested a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with an alternative bail of UAH 50 million.

"The need for such a measure of restraint was justified by the fact that Shylo could escape, hide or destroy evidence. Moreover, the SAPO prosecutor stated that one of the defendants in the case had repeatedly mentioned Shylo’s contacts with top officials of the country, including the head of the Presidential Office and his deputy, the Deputy Prime Minister, the head of Ukrzaliznytsya, and the Minister of Infrastructure, and they are to be questioned," the journalists said.

Artem Shylo is accused of leading an organised group whose activities, according to the investigation, led to the misappropriation of UAH 94.8 million in the purchase of transformers for Ukrzaliznytsya.
