At a press conference with the President of Finland in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia is preparing an additional mobilisation of 300,000 of its military personnel for 1 June, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"I can say that for 1 June, Russia is preparing to mobilise 300,000 additional military personnel," Zelenskyy said.
Answering journalists' questions about the number of recruits to be mobilised into the Ukrainian army this year, the President also said that "we do not need half a million".
"As for the specific number of people who will be mobilised, I cannot say... We do not need half a million," Zelenskyy said.
The President thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyy, for the audit of the army, saying that "it is important that he found the strength within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the appropriate number of those who were not at the front will be at the front."
In late March, Oleksandr Syrskyy said that the need to mobilise 500,000 soldiers had been significantly reduced.
