Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyy, who was featured in journalistic investigations, has resigned from his post.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, he resigned of his own free will.

"On 01.07.2024, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin signed an order to dismiss Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyy from the administrative position of his own free will," the statement said. 

  • In May of this year, Skhemy reported that Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyy lives in a house in the elite Kyiv cottage community Konyk, purchased by his nephew for more than UAH 2 million, which is six times cheaper than the market price.
  • The journalists also noted that the Prosecutor General's Office, where Verbytskyy works, provides procedural guidance in the State Bureau of Investigation's investigation against Konyk regarding the illegal alienation of land plots that were in Kyiv's municipal ownership.
  • In the second investigation, Skhemy told about Verbytskyy’s girlfriend Khrystyna Ilnytska, who in 2024 became the owner of a new Porsche and a 3-storey cottage in the same Konyk, with a total value of at least UAH 52 million - although her total income reported to the state over the past decade was just over UAH 360,000. 
  • In June, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau launched a criminal investigation into the possible illicit enrichment of Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyy. 
  • A few days later, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin ordered that the duties of his deputy, Dmytro Verbytskyy, be transferred to other deputies. 
  • Earlier, Kostin said that he would not dismiss his deputy Verbytskyy while an internal investigation was underway. 

Who is Dmytro Verbytskyy?

  • Born on 9 September 1980 in Odesa, Dmytro Verbytskyy graduated from the Odesa State Maritime Academy with a degree in Law in 2002, and from the National Academy of Prosecution of Ukraine with a degree in Law in 2014.
  • From May 2003 to November 2011, he worked at the Prosecutor's Office of Odesa Region as an assistant prosecutor, investigator, and deputy prosecutor of the district level. From March 2012 to October 2013, he worked at the Prosecutor's Office of Ivano-Frankivsk Region, and then until April 2014, he was Deputy Head of the First Investigation Department of the Investigation Department of the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
  • From April to September 2014, he worked at the Prosecutor's Office of Odesa Region, and from September 2014 to January 2015, he worked at the Prosecutor's Office of Mykolayiv Region.
  • From January 2015 to May 2020, he worked in the Prosecutor's Office of Odesa Region, and from May to September he was the Deputy Regional Prosecutor there. 
  • From October 2020 to September 2022, he was the Deputy Head of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
  • Since 12 September 2022, he has been Deputy Prosecutor General.
