The website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has published an appeal from the leaders of the Ukrainian parliament to US President Donald Trump, the Congress, and the American people.
The document recognises “the crucial importance of US support among other partners in the most difficult time for Ukraine.”
On behalf of the Ukrainian people, the Verkhovna Rada “expresses its deep gratitude to President Trump, the Congress, and the people of the United States for their clear and consistent support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” as well as for “defence packages that have helped stabilise the situation at the frontline.”
The parliament “deeply respects the desire to restore American global leadership” but sees it as “inextricably linked to the defence of freedom and democracy, adherence to international agreements, and reliability in partnership with allies and friends.”
The Ukrainian people “want peace more than anyone else in the world and believe that President Trump’s personal role and peacemaking efforts will be decisive in bringing a swift end to hostilities and peace to Ukraine, Europe, and the world.”
The Verkhovna Rada “emphasises the need to further develop the strategic partnership with the United States.”
