On the night of 3 March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy summed up the results of his visit to London, where he discussed joint efforts for a just end to the war. The meeting’s participants coordinated their positions and agreed that “there will be diplomacy for peace”.

All attendees agreed on a key point: real peace requires real security guarantees. This is the shared position of the whole of Europe, including the European Union, Turkey, the UK, and Norway.

Diplomacy, Zelenskyy emphasised, will serve to keep everyone united – Ukraine, the whole of Europe, and, of course, the United States. He reiterated that Kyiv has always recognised the importance of the US and remains grateful for all the support received.

“There has not been a single day when we have not felt this gratitude. It is gratitude for preserving our independence – our resilience in Ukraine is built on what our partners do for us, and for their own security. What we need is peace, not perpetual war. That is why we say that security guarantees are the key to achieving this,” he said.

  • Most of the meeting’s outcomes remain undisclosed, but it is known that Ukraine, France, and the UK will develop a joint plan to be presented to the US administration.
  • London also announced it would provide more than £1.5 million to purchase ammunition for air defence.
