Germany and the UK have launched a joint project to supply Ukraine with 220,000 35 mm shells for Gepard anti-aircraft systems, as well as financing for Ukrainian-made combat drones.
This was announced by the defence ministers of the two countries, Boris Pistorius and John Healy, at the opening of an online meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's defence in the Ramstein format, reports Yevropeyska Pravda.
Pistorius said that the partners would provide the Gepard with shells in the near future, with funding provided by Germany.
He also said that Berlin is financing a comprehensive supply of long-range Ukrainian drones, which have already proven their effectiveness in combat. According to him, these UAVs destroy Russian planes, drones and missiles before they pose a threat.
‘The first systems funded by Germany will be handed over to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the next few days and will be ready for immediate use,’ the German minister added.
For his part, John Healey confirmed that the UK has already allocated £700 million for the supply of shells, long-range missiles and air defence equipment, including £150 million in the last two months alone. Since March 2025, London has supplied almost 50,000 drones to Ukraine.
As part of the NATO assistance package, the UK will also provide a further £40 million, Healy added.
