Over the past day, Russia carried out almost 50 attacks on Sumy region. It struck 20 settlements across eight communities. The air-raid alert lasted 23 hours out of 24.
Russia shelled the regional centre with multiple-launch rocket systems. Twelve people were injured: men aged 41, 52, 23, 41, 65, 58, 39, 35 and 62, and women aged 67 and 47, the Regional Military Administration reported.
“A 40-year-old man was injured as a result of an enemy drone strike. A 15-year-old girl and a 49-year-old woman sought medical help after being injured on 27 August when guided aerial bombs hit the Sumy community,” the administration said of those hurt in other strikes.
Overnight, the Russians deliberately attacked ambulance vehicles in Sumy with a drone while they were parked on hospital grounds.
Two ambulances, a civilian car and the entrance to the medical facility were damaged.
“Fortunately, no one was hurt. The vehicles were clearly marked. The Russians could see where they were directing the strike,” Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov said.
The highest number of strikes on 28 August was recorded in Sumy and Shostka districts.
The enemy used mortars, artillery, multiple-launch rocket systems, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. The following communities came under attack:
- Sumy
- Mykolaivka rural
- Yunakivka
- Berezivka
- Esman
- Seredyna-Buda
- Novoslobidske
- Velyka Pysarivka
Civilian infrastructure was damaged and destroyed:
- in the Sumy community, non-residential premises, a medical facility building and vehicles were damaged;
- in the Seredyna-Buda community, a private home was destroyed, and an administrative building and non-residential premises were damaged;
- in the Novoslobidske community, a private home and an outbuilding were damaged, and a vehicle was destroyed;
- in the Znob-Novhorodske, Seredyna-Buda and Khutir-Mykhailivka communities, as a result of earlier shelling, private households and other property were destroyed and damaged; in the Seredyna-Buda community, civilian infrastructure facilities were also affected.
