Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka settlement community, was killed in a detonation at the site of a Russian strike in the Kyiv region. He went to the scene of the enemy shelling near the Zhytomyr motorway to help.
A detonation occurred at that time. The Bucha City Council reported this.
“An unspeakably painful and unjust loss for the whole of the Kyiv region and Bucha district,” the city council commented on the tragedy.
Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk said he knew Taras Didych as a strong and caring leader trusted by the community.
Ukraine’s Minister for Restoration and Infrastructure, Mykola Kalashnyk, said that Taras Didych “was among the first to arrive at the scene of the attack to help people”.
During the occupation of the region at the start of the full-scale war, Taras Didych stayed with the community—supporting and helping, holding the community together through one of the most terrifying periods, the minister said.

A native of the village of Strilche in Horodenka district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. He served as village head of the Dmytrivka Village Council in Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district of the Kyiv region from November 1994. In October 2010, he was elected to the post for a fifth term, the community’s website reported.
“Village head Didych T.T. consistently addresses the socio-economic issues affecting the day-to-day life of the council’s villages. He maintains the village’s social infrastructure—roads and public amenities—in proper condition. He successfully ensures the work of the Dmytrivka Village Council in line with modern economic, political and social conditions and requirements. Didych T.T. skilfully combines knowledge of the fundamental issues of theory with practice, and has a modern methodology for substantiating management decisions, taking into account universal human values and the interests of the individual, society and the state,” the Dmytrivka territorial community said in its description of him.
He was awarded the Order of Merit (3rd Class), the Order of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr the Great (3rd Degree), the Order of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St Ilya Muromets (3rd Class), and the Order of Christ the Saviour.
- On the evening of 28 August, one of the Russian strikes hit a production facility in the village of Myla in Bucha district. Private homes were damaged. About 200 people had to be evacuated; it is known there are fatalities, but the number is still being established. At least six people were injured.
- Traffic on the Zhytomyr motorway was restricted due to a large-scale fire.
