Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with a US delegation that has arrived in Russia.
According to him, the US representatives “have already begun work today with the Russian side”.
“From the moment of this conversation, we are ready to observe a ceasefire in aerial strikes against cities involved in the negotiating process. From now until the end of this Saturday, on Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow, and we expect the Russians to do the same with Kyiv,” Zelenskyy said.
The President added that he has also heard reports from Defence Minister Yevhen Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi on the situation at the front, the dynamics of threats in Ukraine’s airspace, as well as active defensive operations.
Zelenskyy noted that in the diplomatic sphere “our actions must be and will be just as strong and effective, one hundred per cent”.
“The plan of diplomatic engagements for tomorrow in Kyiv with the participation of the American team has been approved. We are expecting Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and are ready for a substantive conversation,” the head of state added.
- Yesterday, the President promised to ensure the normal functioning of Russian airspace on 5–6 September to allow Kushner and Witkoff to fly safely.
- Russia was asked to take reciprocal steps: no aerial bombardments.
- As of the morning of 4 September, Russia continues shelling Ukrainian cities.
- US President’s special envoys Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow for talks on ending the war in Ukraine. Before that, Donald Trump said the United States had a new concrete proposal aimed at stopping the war.
- After their visit to Moscow, Witkoff and Kushner are due to travel to Ukraine on Sunday.
