During celebrations of the Jewish New Year — Rosh Hashanah — Hasidic pilgrims in Uman traditionally perform a special ritual immersion, and the location where it is carried out is unsafe for the ritual.

This was warned by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Cherkasy Region.

“One of the sites where the ritual is performed is a flooded quarry. The body of water is not equipped for safe swimming, so rescuers are stepping up safety monitoring for pilgrims. State Emergency Service divers are inspecting the quarry bed and continuously monitoring the water area. A boat with divers is also on duty at the site, and a permanent post with a medical worker is operating on the shore,” the State Emergency Service said.

Rescuers assured that they are ready to respond swiftly to dangerous situations and provide the necessary assistance.
