The State Customs Service has published a statement regarding the detention of one of its employees, who is suspected of causing a road traffic accident in Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
As stated in the SCS statement, the chief state inspector at the Kolomyia customs post of the Ivano-Frankivsk Customs, while off duty, hit a pedestrian and left the scene.
“The crash happened on a day off — 11 October in Horodenka in the Prykarpattia region. The driver was detained and informed of suspicion. The State Customs Service categorically condemns unlawful actions by service employees. The procedure to dismiss the aforementioned official from the customs authorities has been initiated. The final assessment of events will be provided by the investigation and the court,” the agency stressed.
The Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office has released details of the crash.
“On 13 October 2026, prosecutors of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office informed a 31-year-old resident of the town of Horodenka of suspicion who, according to the investigation, hit a pedestrian and fled the scene of the crash. The accident occurred on 11 October 2026 at around 23:00 in the town of Horodenka. It has been established that the suspect, driving a Volkswagen ID.4, was travelling along Vynnychenko Street (according to preliminary data, speeding), where he struck a 25-year-old local resident. At that moment, the man was walking along the edge of the carriageway in the same direction as the car. As a result of the collision, the victim sustained severe injuries: a closed traumatic brain injury and an open fracture of both femurs. He was taken to the intensive care unit of Horodenka District Hospital. He is currently in a coma,” the prosecutor’s office said.
The person responsible for the crash fled the scene and, as the prosecutor’s office said, hid the car in a garage, and the next day went to work as if nothing had happened.
