Russia has stepped up and reshaped its international RussiaIsNotMyEnemy information campaign, seeking to create the impression that citizens of Western countries are tired of the war and oppose supporting Ukraine.
This was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation.
As the CCD notes, the campaign previously aimed to cultivate a “peace-loving” image of Russia. Now its main focus has shifted to simulating protest sentiment among residents of Western countries over the provision of aid to Ukraine.
Over the past week, the Centre’s specialists recorded more than 13,300 near-identical English-language messages on X, supposedly posted by ordinary citizens of Western states.
According to the CCD, the new trend was launched by accounts loyal to Russia, while bot networks helped to amplify it. Over the week, the reach of the modified campaign grew by almost a third.
The Centre stresses that the mass spread of such posts is intended to create the illusion of “war fatigue” in the West and influence attitudes towards continued support for Ukraine.
