Designer and founder of the POLONETS brand Oksana Polonets is representing Ukraine at the large-scale international exhibition Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition, taking place in Bangkok from 11 to 18 October 2026. This was reported by Oksana Polonets’s team.
Under the event’s concept, participants use Thai silk in combination with local fabrics and elements of their cultures.
The signature women’s outfit “Heritage”, presented by Oksana Polonets, is a contemporary interpretation of Ukraine’s cultural legacy.
The central symbol of the look is the Family Tree — a traditional Ukrainian symbol of life, continuity and the unbroken bond between generations. Black silk symbolises Ukrainian soil, while the lace embroidery represents light and hope for the future. The designer combined Thai silk with natural fabrics made in Ukraine from linen and hemp. All elements of the composition are finished with traditional openwork drawn-thread embroidery.
The look’s main feature is that Ukrainian embroidery has been transferred onto Thai silk: bringing the cultures of the two countries together in a single outfit.
The look created by the designer consists of three independent yet interconnected elements: an underdress, a stylised cape made of black Thai silk, and a sash-towel belt.
The white underdress, decorated with openwork drawn-thread embroidery and coloured stripes, is inspired by motifs from the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt; the stylised silk cape reimagines the Ukrainian corset vest, with the garment’s distinctive feature being Ukrainian embroidery on both the outside and the inside; the sash-towel belt is adorned with Family Trees with a red accent, which became the dress’s main decorative element. A key place in the dress is held by the openwork drawn-thread embroidery — a traditional Ukrainian embroidery technique.
A team of ten people worked on creating the look. All countries participating in the exhibition had 3–4 weeks to create their signature looks. Due to disrupted logistics, Ukraine had only a week to work on producing the unique exhibition outfit.
After the exhibition ends, the outfit will remain in Thailand; among the possible prospects is its transfer to a museum linked to the royal family. The designer also plans to develop the “Heritage” motifs in new capsule collections.
