The countries of the Group of Seven plan to allocate €260m to restore the New Safe Confinement at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, reported this on the social network X.
According to Shmyhal, this is an important step towards restoring nuclear safety at the Chernobyl NPP, which was compromised as a result of a Russian strike.
At the same time, the total funding needed to restore the confinement structure is estimated at at least €500m.
“I thank France and, personally, Minister Roland Lescure for leadership in mobilising international support. I am grateful to the G7 countries for their willingness to contribute to the restoration. We expect to secure the necessary funding to cover the remaining needs at the donor conference, which will be held in Paris under the joint chairmanship of Ukraine, France and the EBRD,” the minister stressed.
- The United Kingdom will allocate more than €20m to restore the New Safe Confinement at the Chernobyl NPP, which was damaged as a result of Russian attacks.
