FIFA is considering scrapping its Peace Prize, whose first recipient in 2025 was US President Donald Trump.

This is reported by The Athletic.

A FIFA committee is to assess whether the award should continue to exist and decide in what format it could be presented in future.

Possible options include ending the practice of honouring politicians or abolishing the prize entirely. However, no final decision on its future has yet been made.

The FIFA Peace Prize was established in November 2025. Donald Trump became its first recipient and received the award on 5 December during the draw for the final stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Washington.

FIFA explained the decision by saying that, in the organisation’s assessment, the US President had "helped bring people around the world together in the spirit of peace".
