In Kharkiv, a 35-year-old man from Kirovohrad region will stand trial after making about 12 kg of explosive material and planning to detonate a bomb remotely in the city. The indictment has been sent to court.
This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to investigators, in May 2026 the 35-year-old resident of Svitlovodsk found an “employer” via Telegram, who offered him about $10,000 to carry out a terrorist attack in Kharkiv.
After receiving instructions, the man travelled to the city, rented a flat and began preparing the explosives. Following the заказчик’s directions, he bought the necessary components and independently produced about 12 kg of explosive material containing acetone triperoxide. He was then supposed to assemble a bomb capable of being detonated remotely using a mobile phone.
In early June, law enforcement officers searched the man’s home and seized explosive components and the finished explosive material. He was detained and remanded in custody.
The prosecutor from the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has now sent the indictment to court. The man is charged with preparing to commit a terrorist act as part of a prior conspiracy by a group of persons, as well as the illegal manufacture and storage of explosive substances.
The prosecutor’s office said the accused has repented and actively assisted in uncovering the criminal offence.
The case will be heard by the Novobavarskyi District Court of Kharkiv. The pre-trial investigation and operational support were carried out by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kharkiv region.
Under the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until their guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court’s guilty verdict.
