A Ukrainian border guard suspected of killing a man in Odesa Region has been extradited from Germany.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reported this.
The suspect was handed over to Ukrainian law enforcement at the border with Poland.
The tragedy occurred in July 2024. At the time, border guards stopped a taxi carrying four servicemen who had absconded from a training unit and were attempting to flee illegally to Moldova. During the detention, one of the passengers tried to escape, while another remained under the border guard’s supervision. Investigators established that the border guard shot the detainee even though he posed no threat. The man died at the scene.
Just a few days after the crime, the suspect himself illegally crossed the border and left for Germany, after which he was placed on an international wanted list.
He has now been notified of suspicion of premeditated murder and abuse of office. The court has already remanded the detainee in custody without the right to post bail.
