After winning Serbia’s parliamentary election, the "Student List" party said it would not join European Union sanctions against Russia. They also support ending arms exports.

This was reported by Reuters.

At the same time, the political force intends to maintain energy ties with Moscow. Russia’s Gazprom remains Serbia’s largest gas supplier, providing around 2.2 billion cubic metres each year at prices below market rates.

Representatives of the movement stress that dependence on Russian energy resources is driven primarily by economic necessity rather than the country’s geopolitical orientation.

In addition, leading "Student List" candidates said the future government intends to stop exports of Serbian weapons to regions where fighting is under way. The restrictions would also apply to sales of arms to Western intermediaries who later pass them on to Ukraine.

The new government will also have to resolve the situation surrounding Serbia’s oil company NIS, in which Russia holds a stake. The company operates the country’s only oil refinery.

To continue importing oil, Serbia will depend on US sanctions exemptions while the process of selling Russia’s stake in NIS to Hungary’s MOL continues.

  • With almost 99% of votes counted, candidates from the student movement won 52.7% of voter support, while the alliance of Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party secured 39.2%.
