Most surveyed Ukrainians (71%) are against holding elections now. A further 24% insist on urgent elections, while another 4% are undecided, according to the results of a September poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
Among those who do not trust Volodymyr Zelenskyy at all, only 53% insist on elections now. And among those who rather do not trust him, 58% are against elections now.
“Respondents were also asked whether V. Zelenskyy should take part in the next elections. At present, 53% believe he should limit himself to his current single term (up from 46% in December 2025). At the same time, 42% believe he should take part in the next elections (down from 45%). The remaining 5% are undecided,” the poll says.
Among those who fully trust the President, 85% support his participation in the elections. Among those who rather trust him, the figure is 53%.
From 12 to 21 September 2026, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted its own nationwide public opinion poll, Omnibus, to which, at the request of the NGO Forum, questions were added about the direction of affairs in the country, what Ukrainians feel towards the current authorities, and some other questions. Using the CATI method, based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers across the entire free territory of the country, 1,002 respondents were surveyed. Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical margin of error for such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account a design effect of 1.3) did not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%, 3.5% for indicators close to 25%, 2.5% for indicators close to 10%, and 1.8% for indicators close to 5%. Under wartime conditions, in addition to the stated formal margin of error, a certain systematic deviation is added.
- In February this year, the President said he had not yet decided whether he would run for a second presidential term. He said he might stand for election, or he might not.
