Ukraine Tests Aura 3K Mini EW System to Protect Bomber Drones and Uncrewed Ground Vehicles

According to the developers, the system is intended to jam enemy FPV drone controls while not affecting the platform’s own communications channel via Starlink.

Ukrainian defence company Aura-Ukraine has begun the final stage of testing for the Aura 3K mini electronic warfare (EW) system, designed to protect uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) and heavy bomber drones from Russian FPV drones. The Dignitas Fund charity, which is working on the system’s development together with the manufacturer, told the outlet Oboronka.

The Aura 3K mini is expected to provide 360° all-round protection for the platform thanks to two wideband jammers. They operate in the 2.1 to 2.8 GHz range and are intended to disrupt the control channels of enemy FPV drones. The fund notes that, at the same time, the system should not affect the platform’s own communications channel via Starlink. The device weighs about 2.4 kg.

“Testing of the radiation patterns will begin on the front line in the coming days,” the press service said.

If the final tests are successfully completed, the Aura 3K mini is planned to be launched into mass production.

The developers also intend to improve the automation system for EW operations. In particular, the Aura 3K mini is planned to be equipped with a function that switches on automatically only after a threat is detected. This should make it possible to avoid giving away the drone’s position through constant radio emissions. In addition, the system is to be adapted for use on Vampire-type bomber drones.

Aura-Ukraine is a Ukrainian defence company that develops electronic warfare (EW) systems to protect military equipment and unmanned systems. Its developments include the AURA 2K, AURA AMav, Aura 3K mini and AURA MAGNETIC PULSE GUN 01 EW systems.
