Ukraine has reached agreements with international partners to supply the Air Force’s fighter jets with 20 mm ammunition through the end of 2026. It is used to shoot down Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi said this at a briefing in Kyiv, Suspilne reports.

He said the agreements were reached thanks to joint work by the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Defence, the military and the President’s Office.

“Because Russia is now using jet-powered drones, there is a need to involve aviation more to shoot these targets down. That is why (aircraft, – ed.) F-16s are being used, and (ammunition, – ed.) of 20 mm calibre,” Tykhyi said.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that Ukraine will continue talks with partners on supplying such ammunition for the needs of the Defence Forces.

“We need to keep working: work is under way to ensure (supplies – ed.) for next year as well. But through the end of (2026, – ed.), thanks to this work, our military are supplied,” he added.

  • In his evening address, President Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine continues to work with international partners to strengthen air defence and to secure munitions for F-16 fighter jets.
