On 5 May, the situation in the ATO zone in Donbas was complicated as Russia-backed militants 11 times opened fire on the positions of Ukrainian troops.

At dusk, the terrorists on more than one occasion shelled the positions of ATO forces in the area of Novotroyitske from 120-mm mortars prohibited under the Minsk agreements, and fired small arms and rocket-propelled grenades, the ATO press centre said on Facebook.

In the area of Donetsk, a sniper shot at the positions of government troops near Maryinka. The fortified positions of ATO troops near Avdiyivka were shelled from grenade launchers of various systems and small arms.

At the Luhansk direction, militants attacked the ATO positions outside Novooleksandrivka from rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns.

A day earlier, the ATO HQ reported certain stabilization of the situation in the ATO area.
