The head of a village council in Vasylkivskyy raion, Kyiv region was caught red-handed on 2 June as he attempted to receive a bribe of 300 thousand euros.
According to the SBU press service, he demanded money from the representatives of a agro-industrial company for a long-term lease of 26 hectares of land.
Along with the head of the village council was detained the mediator, who was a councilman of the village. During the detention, the suspects unsuccessfully tried to escape by car.
The operation was conducted by officers of the SBU, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
Criminal proceedings have been opened on charges of accepting a gross bribe.
On 26 February, a detention was reported of the head of a village council in the vicinity of Kryvyi Rih on a bribe of 8 thousand dollars; on 12 May, a village council head in Sumy region was detained on a 2.6m hryvnia bribe.
Criminal investigations are underway.
