Scoop of the weekend: Zelenskyy asked to stop 'political repression'

Domestic politics

A number of Ukrainian researchers, public activists and Soviet political prisoners have addressed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a statement in which they demanded that he stop "political repression", in particular against ex-President Petro Poroshenko, and instead focus his efforts on the consolidation of society in counteraction to Russian aggression.

Coronavirus

Ten regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv are still not ready to move on to the next stage of quarantine easing, according to the Health Ministry. There have been too many new cases over the past week.

The Ukrainian authorities will thoroughly check how stores, markets and public transport adhere to quarantine arrangements because of the record-high numbers of new cases.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has suggested that Ukraine may reintroduce a tough quarantine if the incidence rate keeps growing.

Crime

Neither former US Vice President Joe Biden nor his son Hunter Biden have been involved in the case concerning an offer of bribe to the management of Ukrainian anticorruption bodies in exchange for closing the case against former Ukrainian Ecology Minister Mykola Zlochevskyy, Interfax-Ukraine quoted the head of the Special Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, Nazar Kholodnytskyy, as saying.

Donbas

Ukraine ensures the vital functions of the Minsk agreements on Donbas with the help of the French-German lung ventilator, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said figuratively in an interview with Ukrinform. He described Ukrainian diplomacy as "active offensive".

A 46-year-old unit commander of a reconnaissance company of the 30th detached mechanized brigade was lethally wounded on a combat mission in Luhansk Region on 13 June.

Border

Long queues formed at the Shehini border checkpoint in Lviv Region because of the large number of people leaving Ukraine. According to border guards, there has been an increase in people going abroad in the recent days while delays allegedly have to do with additional procedures introduced by Poland due to the quarantine.
