Scoop of the day: Ukraine marks Day of Defender

On 14 October, Ukraine marked Day of Defenders and Defendresses and the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.


A march commemorating the 79th anniversary of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army took place in Kyiv today. The event began with a solemn rally at the Taras Shevchenko monument.

The procession was organized by the All-Ukrainian Freedom Association, the National Corps, the Right Sector, the Future Society, the Brotherhood, the Unknown Patriot, the National Resistance, and Sokol NGO.

Around 10,000 activists took part in the events.


President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited the forward positions of the Armed Forces in the Joint Forces Operation area. The visit took place as part of his working visit to Donbas. He was briefed on the operational and tactical situation in the area and the use of anti-drones guns, the press service of the Ukrainian presidential office said.

Remuneration for servicemen

The Ukrainian Defence Ministry has transferred almost 370bn hryvnyas to military units and institutions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to repay debts on one-off payments to servicemen, including rewards, incentives for personnel and the like.


President Zelenskyy has promoted Air Force Commander Maj-Gen Mykola Oleshchuk to Lt-Gen.


The Security Service of Ukraine has interrogated a Luhansk people's republic militant who was scouting Ukrainian armed forces' positions under the guise of demining.

SBU counterintelligence officers detained him at the line of contact. The man was armed with firearms and was scouting abandoned AFU positions.

It has been established that he is a member of one of the units of the 6th detached motorized rifle regiment of the LPR people's militia. He is from Alchevsk, a former criminal who is suspected of committing premeditated murder in 2010.
