Scoop of the day: Parliament speaker suspended, faces removal

Parliament

Speaker Dmytro Razumkov has been suspended for chairing plenary sessions for two days. The move was initiated by the pro-presidential Servant of the People faction, as well as the Trust and For Future groups.

The issue of recalling Razumkov from the speaker's post has been included in parliament's agenda for 7 October, Servant of the People party head Oleksandr Korniyenko has said.

Incident

Radio Liberty said this morning that the crew of its Schemes programme was attacked when it was filming an interview with Ukreximbank CEO Yevhen Metsher. The banker allegedly did not like journalist Kyrylo Ovsyanyy's questions and ordered his guards to confiscate the cameras and remove any tapes. The bank's security deleted the video but the journalist recorded the conflict on his voice recorder.

The bank's press service, for its part, accused the journalist of attempting to obtain information containing bank secrets.

The bank's supervisory board issued a statement over the incident in which it expressed concerns over the allegations that the bank put obstacles to journalists' work. It promised a fair investigation into the matter.

Donbas update

A Ukrainian serviceman was wounded in Donbas amid three ceasefire violations by Russia-backed militants, the press service of the Joint Forces Operation HQ has said.

They fired with various grenade launchers near Tryokhizbenka, Novotoshkivske and Krasnohorivka.

Donbas casualties

Nearly 14,000 Ukrainians, including 4,000 civilians, of whom 152 were children, have got killed and 34,000 have been wounded over the period of occupation by Russia, Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova has said at a meeting of the General Assembly of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen.

Airport

Rivne International Airport has for the first time in 20 years received a Boeing 737-500, the regional council has said. The flight by the Lithuanian airline Klasjet brought 49 passengers from Vienna International Airport in Schwechat. Reconstruction at the airport is underway.

Georgia

Ukrainian MP Yelyzaveta Yasko has visited Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili in the Rustavi remand centre, according to Ekho Kavkaza. Yasko, who is believed to be Saakashvili's civil partner, said Georgia was lucky "to have such a man as Mikheil Saakashvili".

"This is a big fight you need to win," she added.

Elections

Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has told RBC-Ukraine he is not planning to run for president. However, he did not rule such a possibility "if need be".

Coronavirus

Ukraine reported 9,846 new Covid-19 cases this morning.

Icebreaker

The James Clark Ross icebreaker Ukraine bought from Great Britain arrived at the Odesa port today, the local news website Dumskaya has reported.
