Montenegro imposes sanctions on russia right after EU

Many wealthy russians have real estate and yachts in the country.

Montenegro has joined the sanctions against russia. Dritan Abazovych, its prime minister, announced this.

"The Montenegrin government has taken restrictive measures in response to Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. I am grateful to all ministers for their cooperation," he wrote.

Abazovych did not say what was included in the package of sanctions. Reuters notes that russia is a major investor in Montenegro, which is a candidate for EU membership. Many wealthy russians have real estate and yachts there.

The EU published the fifth package of sanctions today. The oil embargo is not included in the package, the coal one will start working only from August 2022. The EU member states have frozen nearly 30bn euros in assets of russian and Belarusian oligarchs and organisations.
