The exhumation of the bodies from the place of mass burial started in Bucha.
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova reported that.
According to her, the work started from a big grave near the local church. Around 67 dead bodies are buried here.
"Forensic experts, criminologists, investigators, and prosecutors examine each of them. From those that were already exhumed the majority have bullet and shrapnel wounds from explosions, from some of them only fragments are left. Some of the victims had their IDs with them, the rest will require recognition by relatives based on their clothes and other features or identification through DNA," – Venediktova noted.
The Prosecutor General mentioned that the painstaking work to discover the circumstances of each russian occupier's victim's death would start afterward.
"We already have the witnesses of how those civilians were killed by russists [russian+fascist – tr.] for just going out to get bread and medicine, speaking Ukrainian, helping volunteers or the army. Bucha was one of the training areas for the so-called "denazification", or, to put it simply, the extinction of Ukrainians," – Venediktova emphasized.
She reported that the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine already had "100 pages of data about the russian federation troops who were the occupiers of Bucha" and the prosecutors have the task to identify everyone who "pulled the trigger and gave the orders to massively kill Ukrainians, to use tortures and rapings as a weapon".
According to the Bucha mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk, 163 of the locals killed by russian occupiers had been identified. It is generally known that 320 civilians were killed during the period of the city occupation.
International media have previously reported that the American intelligence was identifying the russian units that were involved in committing atrocities in Bucha.
