Russian invaders withdrew from almost all checkpoints in the Melitopol district of the Zaporizhzhya region, said the mayor of the temporarily occupied Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov.

"Three days ago, the rushists (russian + fascist - translator's note) left almost all checkpoints on the area around Melitopol. They left because our heroic military is doing everything possible and impossible to clear our territory of rushist invaders as soon as possible. A few days ago, even from Vasylivka, the rushists moved towards Zelenyy Gai, fearing an attack from our heroic Ukrainian military," Fedorov said.

He stressed that it was difficult for the remaining residents of occupied Melitopol to resist russian propaganda. There is no Ukrainian mobile service in the town; only russian sim cards are available. Therefore, it is difficult for people to contact relatives who have left Melitopol and receive truthful information.

Fedorov appealed to Melitopol residents in the territories controlled by Ukraine to find an opportunity to contact and support their relatives who remained in the occupied city.

The mayor also stressed that the city of Melitopol will be deoccupied in the coming weeks or months. "We will be able to restore the Ukrainian rule in our city," Fedorov said.

Ivan Fedorov recently reported that the russian occupation authorities had blocked Ukrainian telephone communications and the Internet in Melitopol.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, a partisan movement has been active in the city since at least mid-March. After the arrival of enemy troops in February, residents organized protests and tried to block armored vehicles. The use of force against protesters only helped the resistance movement to gain momentum.
