The Russians have set up a torture chamber for Ukrainian personnel in the underground bunkers of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which they named Energeti, the Ukrainian national atomic company Energoatom has said on Telegram, quoting the Eastern Human Rights Group.
"The torture process is controlled by the notorious Wagner group. The criminals' only condition for release is ransom. But even money is no guarantee of freedom, especially when it comes to the pro-Ukrainian residents of Enerhodar: their captors hate them fiercely," the company said.
The captives are also threatened with "throwing into the reactor", "giving a radioactive shower" and "being left bald and toothless forever".
The IAEA mission, human rights activists suggest, will not be allowed into all areas of the nuclear power plant. Therefore, the Eastern Human Rights Group suggested that this mission should take representatives of the Red Cross and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights along in order to check the entire ZNPP and stop the torture of Energetik's prisoners.
The IAEA mission is expected to arrive with an inspection at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant seized by the Russians next week. It is now being decided which route the inspectors will take.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian parliamentary ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said that Russia has been harassing and detaining the Zaporizhzhya plant workers, accusing them of cooperation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
