The external power supply situation at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant remains critical: currently, the facility is supplied by only one power line, whereas before the full-scale war began, there were ten such lines.

This was stated by Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to the Agency's website.

According to him, the 330 kV backup line has been damaged since 7 May, and there is currently no information on when it will be repaired. As a result, the entire six-reactor plant depends on a single functioning 750 kV line, which supplies electricity to the nuclear safety and fuel cooling systems.

"Although the plant has not been producing electricity for about three years, the reactor cores and spent fuel still need constant cooling. This requires an uninterrupted power supply to the pumps. That is why such a vulnerable situation with energy supply is a cause for serious concern," Grossi said.

The IAEA chief plans to visit Kyiv and Moscow next week as part of regular dialogue with both sides on ensuring nuclear safety during the war.

Last week, agency experts, who are permanently stationed at the ZNPP site, checked the cooling water level in 12 spray pools and two fresh nuclear fuel storage facilities. No nuclear safety violations were found.

At the same time, according to the IAEA, military activity has been recorded near the ZNPP almost daily over the past week.
