Ukrainian air defence forces shot down dozens of enemy missiles during a massive strike on Monday, 5 December. Most of the missiles that were launched at Ukraine were destroyed, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video message on Telegram.
"I want to thank our air defence forces and power engineers. Most of the missiles were shot down. Power engineers have already started to restore electricity. Our people never give up. Glory to Ukraine!" the President said.
In particular, the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) reported the downing of 9 Russian missiles.
"10 missiles were detected in the Kyiv airspace. Preliminary destroyed 9. The information is being clarified," the KCMA wrote.
No hits were recorded during the Russian missile attack in Poltava region. Up to 10 missiles were shot down, Dmytro Lunin, the Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, wrote in Telegram.
"Air raid alert has been cancelled! No hits in Poltava Region. Air defence forces worked to the fullest. Up to 10 Russian missiles were shot down. Everything is going to be Ukraine!", Lunin wrote.
During the Russian missile attack, 15 enemy missiles were shot down in the sky over Dnipropetrovsk Region. The missiles were destroyed by the fighters of the Air Command East.
Updated. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that more than 60 missiles were shot down.
During the latest massive missile attack, Russian troops fired more than 70 Kalibr, X-101/X-555, and X-59 cruise missiles at Ukraine. Air defence forces shot down more than 60 missiles.
According to preliminary information, 38 X-101 / X-555 cruise missiles were launched from eight Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers from the Caspian Sea and Volgodonsk, Rostov Region.
The enemy also struck with 22 Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea Fleet ships.
In addition, Tu-22m3 long-range bombers attacked Ukraine from the Black Sea with three X-22 cruise missiles, as well as Su-35 fighters with six X-59 and one X-31P guided missiles.
On 5 December, Russia launched a new massive missile attack against Ukraine. Explosions were heard in several regions. In Zaporizhya Region, a missile strike killed people.
Russia's latest massive strike on Ukraine has also resulted in hits to energy facilities.
