Russia is trying to use Ukrainian journalists to conduct information and psychological operations, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate has said on Facebook.
It warned that in the near future, Russia may spread fake news, which will be carried out with the involvement of the entire spectrum of information means and aimed at undermining confidence in Ukraine on the part of Western partners.
According to the military intelligence, the Russian special services plan to address Ukrainian journalists on behalf of popular Western publications with proposals to provide information on the state of the Ukrainian economy, political situation and activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The purpose is to persuade Ukraine's foreign partners to reduce military assistance, as well as to collect information about Ukraine's Armed Forces and its defence industry.
"We urge the journalistic community to carefully check the sources from which proposals for cooperation come," the Ukrainian intelligence added.
