There is no doubt that on 14 January, one of the five Kh-22 cruise missiles fired by Russia hit a high-rise building on Peremohy Naberezhna in Dnipro, the Ukrainian Air Force has said.
"On 14 January 2023, five Kh-22 cruise missiles were fired from five Tu-22m3 long-range bombers of the Russian Aerospace Troops on the territory of Ukraine. The launches were carried out from Kursk Region and from the Sea of Azov," it said.
One of the Kh-22 missiles launched from Kursk Region at about 15:30 on 14 January 2023 hit a high-rise building in the city of Dnipro on Peremohy Naberezhna.
Radar detected the approximate launch site, altitude, flight speed.
"There is no doubt that it was an Kh-22 missile," the Air Force pointed out.
The military emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have no means capable of shooting down this type of missile.
Since the beginning of Russia's military aggression, more than 210 missiles of this type have been launched at the territory of Ukraine. None of them was shot down by air defence systems.
"The weight of the Kh-22 warhead is about 950 kg. The maximum range is up to 600 km. When used from long distances, the deviation from the target can be hundreds of meters," the Air Force explained.
It added that only anti-aircraft missile systems, which in the future can be provided to Ukraine by Western partners (these are systems such as Patriot PAC-3 or SAMP-T), are capable of intercepting these air targets.
"Please pay attention to the official statements of representatives of the Air Force, the Ministry of Defence, the General Staff, the branches and services of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and check any 'resonant' messages that are replicated from other sources. Information is a weapon!" the Air Force warned.
