A senior Pentagon official said on Wednesday that the United States aims to break the dynamic of grinding warfare and near-frozen front lines in Ukraine with newly announced military capabilities that it hopes will breathe fresh momentum into Kyiv’s battle against Russian forces, Reuters reports.

Pentagon political affairs adviser Colin Kahl said that the Pentagon is still not ready to meet Kyiv's demands for M1 Abrams tanks.

“I just don’t think we’re there yet…The Abrams tank is a very complicated piece of equipment. It’s expensive. It’s hard to train on. It has a jet engine,” said Kahl, who had just returned from a trip to Ukraine.

Kahl's remarks came ahead of this week's meeting of senior defence officials from dozens of countries at the US Ramstein Air Base in Germany to coordinate military aid for Kyiv.

Today, 19 January, Ukraine once again called on its partners to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Leopard tanks to fight the enemy. Russian troops continue their offensive in eastern Ukraine, and the Kremlin is determined to further intensify hostilities.
