The German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall is ready to provide Ukraine with more than 100 Leopard 1, Leopard 2 and British Challenger 1 battle tanks if it receives the government's approval, Handelsblatt has reported.
Rheinmetall can purchase and modernize a large number of British tanks in Oman. They can be transferred to Ukraine this year. Under such conditions, the Bundeswehr would not have to share its own weapons.
In addition to Challenger, Rheinmetall also offers to supply Leopard 1 and Leopard 2. From the older Leopard 1 model, 20 main battle tanks can be converted and sold this year and another 80 within 20 months.
It is reported that the Flensburg-based FFG Armament Company also has Leopard 1s in stock and can modernize them for Ukraine. However, it is not yet clear how the main manufacturer of Leopard 2, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), can participate in a possible delivery.
