Denmark will give Ukraine all 19 Caesar self-propelled artillery systems it purchased from France, the Danish Ministry of Defence has said on its website, quoting Defence Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen.

It is noted that the Danish government has already held consultations with the parliament during a meeting of the Foreign Policy Committee.

Ellemann-Jensen welcomed the parliament's decision and said that self-propelled howitzers are now very necessary for Ukrainian soldiers.

"This is a very large and significant assistance. We have been in constant contact with the Ukrainians regarding Caesar artillery, and I am glad that we have now received broad support from the Danish Parliament to send it to the fight for Ukraine's freedom," he said.

He added that it is important for Denmark to find a balance between helping Ukraine and continuing to strengthen its defence to ensure the country's security.

The transfer of the self-propelled howitzers will delay the deployment of the 1st Danish Brigade, which is why Denmark is currently considering the possibility of rapidly acquiring new capabilities.

The transfer of howitzers will be accompanied by a package of training and educational programmes for Ukrainians. The Danish Defence Ministry has purchased 15 artillery systems that were delivered in 2020, as well as four more that are scheduled for delivery in 2023.
